Dr. Fan performs following procedures
Upper Endoscopy:
An upper endoscopy is
a procedure to look at the interior lining of esophagus, stomach, and the first
part of your small intestine (duodenum). Through the endoscope, ulcers,
inflammation, tumors, infection, or bleeding can be examined. Tissue samples
can be collected (biopsy), polyps can be removed, and bleeding can be treated
through the endoscope. Endoscopy can reveal problems that do not show up on
X-ray tests, and it can sometimes eliminate the need for exploratory surgery.
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is an outpatient procedure in which the
inside of the large intestine (colon and rectum) is examined. A colonoscopy is
commonly used to evaluate gastrointestinal symptoms, such as rectal and
intestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel habits and weight
loss.
Colonoscopies are also performed in individuals
without symptoms to check for colorectal polyps or cancer. A screening colonoscopy is recommended for anyone 50 years of age or older,
and for anyone 40 years of age or older if a first degree relative has a
history of colorectal cancer or polyps.
ERCP
Endoscopic retrograde
cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is used to view the common bile duct and locate
and treat blockages in the duct. During this minimally invasive procedure, gallstone
can be removed from the duct. Stents (tubes) may also be placed in narrow
places in the duct to allow bile to flow out.
Small
bowel capsule endoscopy
Capsule endoscopy with PillCamTM SB video capsule
enables us to detect and diagnose disorders of the small intestine, including
Crohn’s disease, small bowel tumors, and malabsorption disorders such as celiac
disease.
